The Online Shill
Shill Definition (In this context): A persona engaged
in hidden, deceptive marketing, propaganda, disinformation or social
influence (i.e agenda pushing). The shill attempts to sell products or
influence people to act in a certain manner, by personally posting
information, lies, fake stories and opinions on public forums with the
pretense of sincerity, when in fact he/it is a bot or being paid for his
services. He may also do other activities to steer the thoughts of
readers in a particular direction, or away from certain topics, such as
attack other posters to discredit them or distract from the conversation
with sex or perversions. Typical behavior includes using multiple
accounts (sockpuppets) and/or bot software to control other accounts
(note that this differs from the automated bots seen in the links
below). Using multiple accounts a shill will actually speak to itself to
gain a reputation in the group or message board by showing a respectful
discourse even in a disagreement or argue with itself by playing good
shill and bad shill. In the case of the latter it's often used to make
the bad shill look dumb , hateful and abusive. In this way the good
shill will be the hero and then start slipping disinfo into the
conversation. This tactic is also used for black propaganda as is common
with the satanist shills.
