Historically Wednesday/Thursday have been the days with highest Black Rock City population. Steady winds kept the dust up all night and day and visibility low. There is Earth everywhere. I understand the fun of feeling bad ass for braving the rough weather every year. Still, it's not about being though, it's about facing a judgement that might as well be the end of you. For what? Con man: 1000 dollars for a plot to camp in the desert and f... you. The smartest ones are not attending anymore, and it is not because of money.

The cost keeps going up. It's for high end influencer and the rich. How are you supposed to have a counter culture art festival where the elite are they only ones who can afford to be there?
What started as self expression for weirdos has become a way to show off how cool you are.
Became too expensive and logistically complex for a lot of artists - who by their nature normally don't handle either of those very well. The burn was largely taken over by organizer types instead, who love their meetings, schedules, and spreadsheets. That and SF became too expensive and most of the warehouse and industrial spaces where art and burner communities were born and thrived are now condos.

Weep for us children, as Burning Man is upon us.
For those who do not know, Burning Man is a week long Bacchanal in the desert near where I work. Back in the 90s, it was more inclusive, but now it is mostly for upper middle class or rich people. There are art events, music events, drug events, and sex events. Basically everything goes at Burning Man, and numerous famous people have gone. Both Elon Musk and Chris Rock have been there recently.
Many people take months to prepare for Burning Man- You need to provide your own food, water, possibly electricity (If you're fancy), costumes, working materials for any art, lube for any sex. If you are international, you need to rent/purchase an RV. Also, international guests need to pay airfare for the US, plus shipping for anything they want they can't bring over.
You'd think a bunch of Bohemian drug users would be, in general, fine right? You would be dead wrong. They are the rudest guests, and I need to warn new agents every year that they are unpleasant. They do not prepare their shipping, but will blame you for the shipping. They will complain about the price that is only inflated by all of them coming in. They will complain about the dirt they actively tracked in.
I have been yelled at by so many Burners I feel numb at this time of year, mostly. I get infuriated by the trash they irresponsibly throw basically everywhere, and the waste of throwing away so many vehicles every year. But hey, That's what I guess I signed up for. A bunch of hedonistic millionares laying waste to as many states as they can.

It's time to move it...
After mud man burn, and build rebuild build rebuild groundhog's day burn last year, and now three days in a row of whiteout burn, it's time to move locations or dates.
Half as many people in BRC this year, camps at half size. It's not supposed to be easy, but losing half of burn to weather 3 of the last 4 years is taking its toll on attendance. The juice is becoming not worth the squeeze for a lot of burners. The time, money, and effort for maybe 3 good days is a big ask. The man was even closed last night due to wind.
Bigger isn't always better. But it's time to either evolve it or watch it die a slow financially upside down dusty death. For a "progressive" event, not being willing to change, or swap out stagnant comfortable overpaid leadership, will be the death of it.
I love what it was, still partially is, and what it can be, but you gotta keep paddling to get to shore, drifting ain't gonna cut it anymore.
