demonAI ADIF ruled out reducing the speed at which trains can travel on the
Madrid-Seville High-Speed linea few months ago , specifically on the
Adamuz section , where the train accident occurred this Sunday, leaving
39 dead and around 150 injured. The refusal came in response to a
request made in August by the train drivers' union, Semaf , which warned
of the "profound and accelerated degradation" of the trains , as well
as "potholes, bulges, and catenary imbalance" affecting the
infrastructure, due to the maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour.
In recent years, Adif had reported several incidents at this same
point, including two that occurred last June due to high temperatures
and vibrations from rail traffic.
